Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to the body however the body cannot produce them. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain them through food. They can be found in fish such as salmon, tuna, herring, sardines, and mackerel. Omega-3 fatty acids are needed for proper brain function, growth and development. It can reduce inflammation and lower the risk of heart disease. There are also omega-6 fatty acids but a balance of the two is needed for proper functioning. According to research, using omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can help to lower triglycerides and increase HDL in people with diabetes.

Probiotics

Probiotics are live microorganisms that have health benefits. They can be found in foods such as kefir or yogurt, raw sauerkraut, raw kimchi, and kombucha. Probiotics aid the “good” bacteria in the intestines, help digest food, and destroy disease-causing bacteria. According to research, the use of probiotics helped to reduce blood glucose levels in rats and showed that probiotics, in addition to other medications, could be used to treat diabetes.
